Osaka...it can be a bit overwhelming.
Japan's second largest city ...with a night time population of 2.6 million that surges to 3.7 million in daytime when the salarymen and salarywomen stream into the city.
But quietly nestled into a quirky and unique community within (Nakazaki Town) you will find the ' AManTo Tribe '. A group of committed artists & artisans that want to share their dream of what a sustained art community can be....whether you are in Osaka for a few days, months or years...you are welcome to explore what Jun and his ' tribe ' have created.
By restoring old buildings/houses into businesses they have created cafes, artspaces, performance spaces, bars, museum, book store, theatre, cinema, radio station, accomodations and more. This site is attempting to be the ' link ' to the non Japanese community to be part of what Jun has coined as ' co creation '.
Here we call them ' a tribe ' in the context of an old African proverb: "It takes a village to raise a child." It originated from the Nigerian Igbo culture and proverb "Ora na azu nwa" which means it takes the community/village to raise a child. The Igbo's also name their children "Nwa ora" which means child of the community. It has been in existence in Africa for centuries.
The concept of the AManTo Group is to share it's art & inspirations with all sentient beings...and perhaps in the process show it's own Japanese community another way to live, eat, breathe and be happy.
As we are all ' children ' of this world community.
"Nwa ora"
